• Rutgers Health Services utilizes Quest Diagnostics for its laboratory work. Phlebotomy and other laboratory services are available on site for students who require laboratory testing.
  • You may come to Hurtado Health Center Laboratory area daily Monday-Friday from 8:30AM – 3:00PM to have your blood drawn. No appointment is needed.
  • To get lab tests, you need an order from a healthcare provider – like a prescription. Rutgers Health Services providers will send your lab orders electronically. Off-campus healthcare providers can give you a written order. Just bring your doctor’s requisition form or prescription with the correct codes and your insurance information or you can fax it directly to the health center.
  • Your healthcare provider should explain how to prepare, if necessary, but feel free to call with any questions about whether or how to prepare for the tests you need.  For  example, some tests require you to be fasting. .
  • You will not be billed for most blood tests ordered by one of Rutgers healthcare providers. The University covers lab tests ordered at our Health Centers.
  • If the test was ordered by your private health care provider:  Quest Diagnostics will submit a claim to your insurance company and results will go directly to your doctor. If Quest does not participate with your insurance plan, Rutgers Health Services staff can help you find a local drawing station for a laboratory that accepts your insurance or we will draw your blood and the policy holder will receive a bill from Quest Diagnostics.
